My name is Jacque Michael Cartier Jr., 1943 is the year of my birth. The city and state, Pensacola Florida. As a youngster my favorite place was in the tall grass, an area across the road from my home. Birds, butterflies, lizards, frogs even spiders bright flowers and differing grasses held my attention. Catapillars eating and growing daily, their colors and movements added to my amazement. Mother Nature's complexity and beauty held me in her gript, even to this very day
My family migrated to California in 1949. Educated through the Berkeley School System , with Mother Nature still my focus. I graduated from the system, continuing my education through the Peralta College District, in Oakland California.
While working towards my degree in Aquatic Biology, I met and married the love of my life, Beverlely Crawford. This union produced three wonderful children, two sons and a daughter.
Working as a Pipe Fitter in the construcion industry gave insights as to various components in the industry, merging to produce a single intity. A home, a hospital , even an airport, much like nature combines her components to build our environment.
A serious back injury forced my retirement and subsequence relocation to Arkansas where I enrolled again in College completing my degree. This process introduced me to pottery as an elective. I fell in love with the clay. The minipulation of the clay allowes me to imitate natures shapes, textures, colors, strucutures to produce an image, a work of balance and harmony . My perspective, my experiences, my interactions produce items uniquely JMC.
